After a particularly frustrating marathon debugging session on Sunday, I was inspired to write a poem.
\n<\/p>\n

\nWhy won’t it work?
\nI stare at the screen
\nof the hateful machine<\/p>\n

I check all the details
\nin the documentation
\nWhile the error prevails
\nwith my growing frustration<\/p>\n

I stare at the screen

I read through the code
\nLine after line
\nWill it explode?
\nIt all looks fine<\/p>\n

Why won’t it work?<\/p>\n

Can this not be solved by logic
\nRather than a gin and tonic?<\/p>\n

I go for a walk
\nto clear my head
\nI wonder which detail
\nI could have misread<\/p>\n

Why won’t it work?<\/p>\n

I don’t believe it
\nI try it once more
\nThe testing reveals
\nThat it’s broken for sure<\/p>\n

I stare at the screen
\nof the hateful machine
\nWhy won’t it work?<\/p>\n

After hours and hours
\nusing all of my powers
\nI can prove that nothing is wrong
\nWhy won’t it work?<\/p>\n

My eyes are red
\nIt’s time for bed
\nI take a break
\nAnd eat some bread<\/p>\n

I stare at the screen
\nof the hateful machine
\nWhy won’t it work?<\/p>\n

My ideas exhausted
\nI ask for assistance
\nThis has to be better
\nthan endless persistence<\/p>\n

I explain the problem
\nfrom the beginning
\nMy head is spinning
\nHe listens<\/p>\n

Words pass my mouth
\nat such a pace
\nDesperately trying
\nnot to lose face<\/p>\n

As I realise that something
\njust isn’t quite right
\nI dig a bit deeper
\nBecause this just might<\/p>\n

Be the answer, the light
\nThe end of the fight
\nWith wishful delight
\nI forsee
\nthe end of the night<\/p>\n

I fix and I test
\nand, embarrassed, I jest
\nthat a schoolboy would make
\nthis sort of mistake<\/p>\n

But it works now
\n<yawn>
\nI’m going to bed
\nIn the morning once more
\nI’ll be using my head<\/p>\n

I’ll write the next feature
\nAnd pray the next bug,
\nThat most nasty creature,
\nWon’t be so smug<\/p>\n
